homemade birdfeeder treats?
i was thinking of making my own birdfeeder treats for the wild birds in my yard. i have some leftover gerbil food from when i had one(it died recently, poor thing, so it is still fresh). would that be ok to use? it is mainly millet and sunflower seeds, i know birds like that. i also have some styrofoam balls, could i coat them in PB and adhere bird food to them(i want treats that i can hang from the trees in my yard)? or glue? i’m just trying to get creative with what odds and ends i have laying around the house. thanks for the help!
Millet and SF seeds are good, however I wouldn’t attach them to anything unorganic such as styrofoam. If you have access to pinecones, mix the seed with PB and poke that into the pinecones. You could then hotglue the pinecones to pipecleaners, or wrap a piece of wire around it to attach it to the trees. Birds will love it and there is nothing ‘unnatural’ for them to get into their systems. But use the seeds soon so they don’t get rancid.
