how can you tell the difference between a male and female cockatiel?

i have 2 birds on is gray with a white face and the other gray with yellow face

The adult colors do not develop until they have their first full molt. In the typical gray colored ‘tiels, the males have yellow faces with orange cheeks. Females will have gray faces with pale orange spots on their cheeks. The tail feathers of adult females will also show a barred pattern on the underside of the feather.

An experienced cockatiel breeder can feel the space between the pelvic bones and sex even immature birds but it takes some expertise. My wife and I got fooled a couple of times by both coloration and pelvic bone spacing!

If you want to spend the money there are companies that can determine the sex by fecal samples or feathers.
