can my pet budgie live on his own now that his mate has died today?

i introduced my budgie to the one that died 2 years ago and he was only young so he has had another bird with him,can he be happy still without another bird?he has been talking to his mirror today and been looking for the budgie that died, but im hoping he will adjust, will he be okay?

When my male Amazon lost his mate of 20 years I worried about him being lonely. It didn’t seem to bother him much. They don’t have the same sense of loss as we might think. One thing that may be a factor is that although he does not have a cage mate he has two macaws in seperate cages that he can see. He kept on eating well and didn’t appear to lose any condition so I didn’t worry about him too much. Keep an eye on your bird and watch if he is eating normally. If you do decide to get him a friend I would suggest housing it in a cage close to his to let them get aquainted first rather then just putting the new bird directly into the same cage. Good luck.
