should i put pine shaving in the nest box or nesting materials inside the cage? for lovebirds?

What nesting materials should I supply my bird?.. please I need help.. should I put directly inside the nestbox or let the bird do they’re job?.

Never use anything smelly (even natural like wood shavings) for birds (or other pets like reptiles, rodents, whatever).
