Raccoons and bird feeders?

I seem to have a problem with our bird feeders and raccoons. I have squirrel proof feeders and I use sunflower seeds in them. For the past month something has been getting into them and I believe it is raccoons. Is there any way to raccoon proof them or do I just take them down?

Raccoons are really smart when it comes to bird feeders or anything else that entails food. I would say the best method would be hire a person with a live trap or if you know some one with one. trap the animal and have him let go in the wild. this way you the raccoon and the birds will live happly ever after. good luck
