Easy Ways to Give Your Living Room a Decorative Flair
The modern look has been in for a while now but if you’re like me, the overall look can seem a little sterile. Solid colors, straight lines and symmetry are obviously aesthetically appealing, but it’s hard to have a personality in all of the order and organization. But you shouldn’t lose yourself in the decoration process. There are still plenty of ways to bring your own style into the modern look. Check out my tips and suggestions below.
1. Artwork. Taking the time to carefully choose the artwork for your living room will really help you to express yourself. Don’t just grab whatever hip modern painting you can find. The artwork should really speak to you and grab your attention before you throw down loads of cash. If you really want to add some flair to your living room, purchase an original piece of artwork.
2. Pillows. If you own very basic, modern, chromatic furniture it will really catch the eye of your visitors, but if it’s all one color then it will lack personality. That’s why it’s important to add printed pillows. Make sure the print coordinates well with your furniture but the pattern should reflect your personal tastes. If you’ve searched high and low, but you can find the right pillows then make your own. It’s relatively simple.
3. Decorations. Adding simple decorations to your living room can really spice up the décor. Feel free to incorporate your interests and hobbies into your living room. For instance, if you are fascinated with birds, why not add a vintage bird cage to you living room?
4. Rugs. This is another easy way to add some flair to your modern look. You can easily find a colorful and dramatic rug that will fit in with your modern furniture or artwork. Search around at places you wouldn’t normally. That way you’ll be able to find something that none of your friends have. Check out local thrift stores, estate sales and flee markets. Just avoid Ikea or Pottery Barn.
Don’t lose your personality when decorating modern. Your living room shouldn’t have to look like an Ikea catalogue, those rooms just aren’t livable. You want your living room to be stylish, but also comfortable and inviting for you and all of your guests.
