I want a pet but I travel a lot!?

I want to get a pet, I love animals but for a pity I travel a lot9like every two weeks) by plane, so i can’t take it with me.I tried to have a bird, when i left i left lots of food and toys in the cage and left for 3 days…but the bird died.So now i’m scared to get anything….Any advice on what animal can I get?I don’t want animal to suffer, but is it anything that will survive by itself if i leave plenty of food?

If you want to leave something at home, you can get a hamster or guinea pig. If it is in a large cage with many toys and a wheel, it can go for up to a week without needing extra care. Get it a “no-mess hall” style food dish, or an automatic feeder that dispenses and holds a large amount of food, and when leaving for more than two days give it access to two water bottles. It is rare for hamsters or guinea pigs to eat themselves to death as your bird may have done.

Some small dogs are excellent travelers. Many airlines will allow you to take the dog in a cloth kennel as a carry-on, but since you fly frequently, you should check with the airlines before adopting. Also, you will have to make reservations in pet-friendly hotels, which can actually save your company money. Ask around.
