Can people take an animal’s medication?

I have a chronic prostate infection and I need Doxycycline to control it. I’ve run out of it and I can’t get more because I don’t have health insurance anymore. I found where I can buy 100 mg Doxycycline capsules online, but they’re meant for birds and other pets with infections. Is this the same Doxycycline that’s used for people? Can I take it? It should be the same, right?

It is the same. I use to help my husband treat his livestock, and I am a retired pharmacist technician II supervisor who worked with the ER code team. But I will tell you, you really need to go to the doctor if taking a round of it doesn’t clear it up. Most vet sites will not sell it without a prescription either.
