Can I use fabric seed guards on my guinea pig cage?

I just bought my sona guinea pig and she is so sweet and gentle, but she makes such a huge mess of bedding on the floor around her cage. I would like to keep this area neat. At petsmart and online I have found a wide variety of fabric seed guards for bird cages. It is basically fabric with elastic and it fits over the lower part of the cage and keeps seeds from flying out onto the floor. I can’t find anything like this for guinea pigs and I was wondering if it would be safe to use or is there some reason they arn’t manufactured for small animals. Oh, and her cage is a solid metal base that goes up about 4 inches, with wire on top. Does anyone have an suggestions if not the seed guard?
As a response to the person below, I said it was solid metal on the bottom. The wire surrounds the top of the cage and sides. Not the bottom where he walks.

I would avoid using the seed guard. The ones I have seen the seeds can and will come off, seeds pose as a massive choking risk amongst other things including being very unhealthy for guinea pigs.

Have you heard of using fleece as a bedding? This way nothing will be kicked out. What fleece does is wicks the urine through to the absobent under lay which is either mattress pads, puppy pads or towerls. It does not smell and is very in-expensive. Every day or so you will need to use a small hand vacuum (or something similar) to vacuum up the poops, every week you will need to chuck everything into the washing machine with 1/2 a cup of vinegar. This site http://www.guineapigcages.com/forum/bedding/21568-fleece-project-study.html and this site http://www.guineapigcages.com/forum/bedding/20746-fleece-types-debates.html talk about fleece.

I would also like to ask how big your cage is? It should be at least 7.5sq ft, I would be suprised if you could find a pet store cage that big. So I suggest you make a C&C cage http://www.guineapigcages.com/index.htm.

Also, please consider adopting a cage mate for your girl, another sow or a nuetered boar will work best. Guinea pigs are herd animals by nature and as a result should be housed in groups of 2 or more.
