I have a ten month old Cockateal that won’t behave he is very aggressive and makes strange noises.?

we recently added vitatamens to his diet. He does not have a mate yet, being that young. He will attack without provocation and bite me. Before he was a gentle loving bird who loved to cuddle now he does not want to be touched, is there anything I can do to help him? I am confused this came on about 4 days ago and has been getting worse ever sinse. I am afraid to let him out of his cage.

Cockateals are social birds. Related to parots, they live in colonies. They are highly intelegent. The noises are probbably frustared attempts to contact other birds.

You bird is getting to the age of establishing pecking order. Either he will end up the boss or you will. Make sure its you.

Start by relocating the cage in the room. This says its your space and you decide where the cage is.

Then link all food to appropriate behaviour. Every seed should be earned. Being nice means lots of fuss and food. So its not just giving food any more and walking away. This takes some attention time each day. Try hand feeding through the bars, then with hands in the cage, then outside of it. He’ll soon get the message. You are alpha bird and you mean food and security. Then you have a happy bird, not a viscious creature in a cage you dare not touch. Don’t punish please. This will only confuse and traumatise.

Get a mate for you bird as soon as you can. Try a rescue center – then you will get support and advice and help an unwanted bird.
