Amazon Tomorrow, Help?
Im picking up a 2 year old Orange wing amazon tomorrow.
i do have experience with birds (iv had my neglected little angel Paco *cherry headed conure for years now) plus i always go around to the pet stores and local breeders houses to interact and learn about larger parrots.
i need some help on toys.. what do they like in toys, what the cage dimesions should be (hes coming with a 62 in high cage which i think will be large enough) if i should feed him a pellet diet and how his overall personality will be (considering its an amazon)
i have knowledge on amazons just for some reason im getting nervous because this is the first time if hear or orange winged
Thanks alot to all who help me out in this situation, thank god for YA! haha = )
Wow tons of typos– im sorry guys
Ask the breeder what she has been feeding him and feed him that for the first week or snad then convert him to whatever pellet brand and seed mix you want to feed him. And do the switch slowly so as not to mess up his sytem.
Toys, give lots of different kinds. Ones with rope, ones with leather, ones with wood, ones with wiffle balls, ones with beads, a few with beads, and be sure to get a foraging toy or two or three. Your bird should have at least 4-6 toys in the cage at a time and rotate them in and out with new one sor old ones that aren’t destroyed every 3 weeks or so. With a good variety he won’t get bored, and that is veyr important!
Amazons are great, they do tend to be territorial and nippy when they hit sexual maturity(especially the males) But other wise they are friendly, some cuddlers other just prefer to be around the family.
