What are those brown birds on telephone wires?

I don’t know my birds too well, so I’m curious. There are many of these birds, and they perch side by side on telephone pole wires. I’ve also seen them in my yard. They are bigger than house sparrows and appear overall brown. It is always a fairly large flock of them. I have a bird reference book but am not having any luck trying to match these birds with any of them in the book. Hope someone can help me. Thanks.

There are quite a few species of sparrows, some are larger than others. But usually when you see a flock like that, they are starlings. It is according to how the light shines on them, sometimes they appear brown, sometimes black, with speckles on their back. The females look different than the males.
