Where and how do you get a license to care for wild birds that are ingured?

Well at my girlfriends grandparents house theres lots of bird nests in there garage and a lot of the baby birds have fallen out of the nests and died or look like they have gotten hurt cause its above a 15ft drop, so i put any that were alive in a box under the nest so the mom could feed them. so it just got me thinking about maybe getting a license to care for injured birds and releasing them back into the wild.

Based on my own experience, it would take you at least a year, if not longer, to get a license. And you must be at least 18 years old.

There are many qualifications which must be met, and tests that must be passed before anyone can be licensed. In addition, you must have an alliance with a vet who is licensed to treat wildlife.

For 90% of rehabbers, it’s not a paid occupation. It’s a very expensive and labor intensive “hobby”. If you want to do rehab out of your home, expect lots of expenses just to get set up. Cages, equipment, foods and supplies must be on-hand, set-up and pass inspection.

Animals are rehabbed with one goal in mind – safe and successful re-release into the wild. No animals are ever treated like pets, named, or even talked to. It’s a very clinical job, with lots of paperwork, and tight schedules.

It’s also highly rewarding, but it’s not for everyone. The hours are long, and the job can be heartbreaking at times.
