Can anyone help me identify this health problem?
I have this weird physical reaction whenever I get excited from watching something full of action, or daydream about something exciting… I flap my hands up and down really fast(this is not a joke), kind of like a bird taking off for flight, I suppose, but it’s in front of my chest instead of on the sides like a bird would. Thing is, I can control it when I’m either aware that I’m doing it, or I’m in public. I usually only tend to do it when I’m somewhere that I feel comfortable, like my room(or house, for that matter). I have talked this over with my parents(I’m 17, if this makes a difference?) and they think that it may be some form of tourettes? Can anyone help me diagnose this?
*Even if this isn’t a serious problem to worry about, if anyone has any way of helping me figure out what it is(or suggestions as to what it could be), I am just interested to know what is affecting me. It’s just so…out of the ordinary.
That actually sounds like a symptom of autism. You could be in the autistic spectrum and have never been properly diagnosed. You might want to research the other signs of autism and see if you have any of them.
Here is an interesting video about a young women talking about her autism. She talks about flapping her arms in the way you mention at about 4:55. Check it out:
Best of luck and hope this helps.
