Enjoying the Summer Outdoors

There are many ways to enjoy the beautiful weather the summer brings. One of my favorite is just actually sitting outside and enjoying nature at it’s finest. To hear the birds chirping, the leaves rustling, and water running is not only fun but very relaxing. To enjoy some of these sounds and activities you should really have two items. Those items are simply an outdoor bird bath and a wooden porch swing.

There are many types of outdoor bird baths available for you to purchase online. You should get one that fits into your overall landscaping theme. Don’t get a shiny gold one if you have a rustic beautiful outdoor setting. The number of different kinds of bird baths is staggering. I like to first focus on the color then on the fixture that looks like it fits in with my landscaping. I also like running water so I would find one that has that feature. I find that some birds like the running water and it also keeps any bugs from nesting in it. You can also get a battery operated water wiggler which will keep water moving to deter mosquitoes from breeding. To keep it algae free and looking as nice as possible I would also get a chelating copper solution from a pet store. This solution is earth and bird friendly and works quite well to prevent algae buildup. Do these two steps and you will enjoy your outdoor bird bath all summer while sitting in your new wooden porch swing.

Wooden porch swings are fun and relaxing while the summer air is warm and inviting. Wooden porch swings used to be a staple at a house. Now days they are rare to see but when one is there you almost have to sit in it. Porch swings have a tendency to make you relax and forget about the little troubles in life. Everyone needs to get away from the computer and television once in a while and a wooden porch swing is a good way. You can have a cup of coffee and read the morning paper while on the swing. At night curl up with a book and watch the sunset is unbelievably relaxing! When purchasing a swing you need to first figure out where it will sit. Based on this you have many options available. It can be stand alone or it can attach to a permanent fixture. You must also make sure and treat them so they withstand the weather. I would stain it regularly because the wood is generally a soft wood. Finally make sure it fits with the overall landscaping theme and your outdoor bird bath is visible from where you put it for hours of enjoyment.
