I’m building a bird bath and need a little help?

I’ve bought a couple of vases to glue together to form the base and a large plate to sit on the top for the water basin. Also, I have some flat marbles that will lay in the bottom of this basin. What I need help with is – what kind of glue do I need for these flat marbles to stick to the plate? I’ve got some cement mix, but I’d rather the “mortar” in between the marbles be white, so I also bought some tile grout.
I have household cement (like superglue), will this work to make the marbles stick? Then, can I use the tile grout to finish it off?

I’ve never done this before and find instructions on the internet confusing, they talk about brand names of grout, cement, thinset, and so on. What I have is a small box of craft cement and powdered tile grout and some household cement (superglue).

What I need is step by step of exactly what to do and how long to wait for it to set up and when I’ll be able to add water for the birds to enjoy.
Thanks so much for helping me.

Sounds like a fun project. I would suggest:
1. you talk with someone at a local nursery / greenhouse to make sure the products you’re using are safe for the birds
2. birdbaths are suppose to be cleaned regularly and 2 1/2″ deep. If you glue tile or flat marbles to the bottom, when you occasionally scrub out the bath, it may be hard to truly clean it out because of the objects you’ve glued on the bottom. (Make it easy for you & safe for the wildlife.)

I found an old birdbath on my old property that’s close to 100 years old. It’s in great shape; about 2 feet wide and 8″ deep. Since it’s too deep for the birds, squirrels and cats (they all drink out of them), I put a big rock in the middle and everybody seems happy. Have fun, take it easy. Enjoy nature – they’ll thank you with song and by ‘being there!’
