Eurasian Jay in Devon, England?
A few months ago, i was watching the birds in the garden, as you do and i noticed a really peculiar looking bird.
It was a fairly large, sandy brown coloured bird with a white and black chinstraps and a dash of bright blue either on the base of the tail or tip of the wings – i couldn’t tell.
Anyway, i looked up british garden birds and couldn’t find it anywhere! I’ve thoroughly looked through two animal encyclopedias and failed to find it! I asked everyone and still no-one knew what it could be.
Eventually, while casually on the internet i came across the bird and it turned out to be a Eurasian jay!
Now, when i looked it up, it wasn’t very specific about it’s range and i was just wondering if it unusual to find a Eurasian Jay in a garden in Devon, England? As i’ve never seen one before in my life!
Any info on the bird would be appreciated, thanks alot!
Yes jays are common birds in the Devon country side but not often seen in gardens, these birds are very shy and don’t hang around to be watched.
