im planning to buy a fish and a bird?

im going to purchase those zebra looking striped fish from a pet store, and do they need a 20 gallon tank just to survive? because last time, i didnt have a tank, so i just put it into a bowl, and it survived like say 4 months with out food or other stuff you need, just water. I might purchase like 10 goldfishes, because the pet store sells them 19cents each. do they need big tanks too?

I am also going to purchase a bird, those $19 dollar birds, all kinds of colours, their small though.. they have black and white stripes on their head.. what is needed for the bird?

I would highly recommend you research these animals before you just go and buy them. It’s very important to understand the care they’ll need before you bring them home. You sound like you just decided overnight that you want these animals, and that’s probably the worst way to decide to get a pet. You don’t even know the proper names for these animals, which just tells me you are very unprepared. I’m not trying to sound rude, I’m just trying to convince you to learn about them before you run out and buy them. When people do this, they usually get stuck with pets they don’t really want, and that’s unfair to the pets. They sometimes end up neglected, sick, dying, etc. You need to learn about the animals and the care they need first. You also need to think through how much time and money you will be willing to devote and spend on the animals. This is very important when getting a pet as well.

I know very little about fish, so I’m just going to say read up all you can about the fish you want. Do some research on Google, Ask, even Yahoo Answers, or buy some books. I’d also recommend asking people that work at the pet shop anything else you may need to know. I’m sure they’ll be glad to help and tell you the proper care needed.

I do know quite a bit about birds, but I’m going to give you the same advice. Research. But from what you described, these birds are budgies (budgerigars), which are a type of parakeet. I have one, and he’s rather easy to care for, but I did hours and hours or research before I purchased him, and it sure paid off. But if you’re going to be one of those stubborn owners who won’t do their research, I’ll tell you the basics. You’ll need a cage, food, water, food and water dishes, perches (No sandpaper or concrete, this hurts their feet!), cuttle bones, toys, and treats. Get a medium sized cage, and spend at least 20 minutes a day with your bird. Read up on how to get the bird to trust you, because trust me, it’ll probably be terrified of you at first. Gaining a bird’s trust is very hard, and it takes time, love, and patience. You will probably be spending at least $100 to get a bird set up, and monthly costs for food, toys, treats, etc. Don’t ignore these things either, because they’re very important for a bird.

Anyways, good luck to you, and these animals. Please do your research, and make sure you’re making the right decision.
