Can bird seed suet go bad?
My father found a block of prepackaged seed suet in the refrigerator that I am pretty sure has been in there for at least 2 1/2 to 3 years.
Because it says “best if old” on it, he’s decided that he should put it out for the birds, and if it has gone bad they won’t eat it. I disagree.
Can suet expire, or is it safe to feed to the birds?
The fats in it can go rancid..it is a pungent sharp smell and when that happens the birds will not eat it. Just put it out if you don’t smell anything wrong with it and see what happens, won’t hurt the birds. Who knows, the aggressive old squirrels and raccoons might just love it old as it is !
