Why do they stick birdshaped stickers onto windows and large expanses of glass?

They tell me it’s to keep the birds from flying into the glass, but surely they’ll go “hey, look, a brother bird is flying there, that must means it must be safe.” and then splatter?
Or do birdbrains work differently to ours?
