Birds and their feathers, is there anything I can do?
I have a happy healthy pair of budgies and I enjoy their happy chirping and silly things they do but man-o-man I cant stand their feathers! They shed little feathers, like there under down, im guessing because they are constantly grooming themselves and each other. They do go to the vet and have been examined for mites so i know its not that and the vet says ‘oh thats norm’ when asked about the feather shedding… ok but he doesnt have to live with it. Ok long story short does anyone have any suggestions how to slow it down, a special food? (we tried molting and stress) and we have a seed catcher around the cage but those darn feathers are so light they float all over the house. Again its not hundreds or anything just those annoying few but its enough to drive me nuts.
All birds molt feathers, just like we grow hair. There’s no stopping it.
Like someone else said – birds are messy. Feathers float. It’s a fact of bird ownership.
If you keep the cages clean, and use a vacuum, you should be able to keep it at a minimum.
