Growing Millet?

I tried planting millet seeds in late June last year but the plants was dead by October. The reason I want to plant millet is because I have alot of birds and they love that stuff. What would be the best time to start planting the millet seeds?

It doesn’t matter when you plant millet…the birds will still eat it.
If your patch is small enough you can always put paper sacks over top of millet…that will keep birds off.

We have grown white millet and sorghum….both red and white and also broom corn. We always plant it in early May.
The millet was always the birds favorite and they would not leave it alone. But the red sorghum and broomcorn the birds left alone…so now we grow those and stopped growing millet.
In late August we cut down sorghum and broomcorn and lay it out to dry. After that we bundle it up in small bundles…we store it in your garage hanging from rafters or you can hang up bundles for birds to eat. They love it.
Here is website that had sorghum seeds….otherwise I buy seeds from ebay all the time…very cheap.
