General Store in the 1940’s?

What would a general store in the 1940’s sell? So far I have: spools of thread, flower seeds, light bulbs, hair brush, flour, balloons, canned pineapples, soap, oil lamps and soda. I’m basing this on the “Wm. Johnson General Merchandise Store” from the book “I know why the caged bird sings.” If you could also put where you got your info. from that would b great. Thx!
