Hummingbird feeders near other type of feeders?

I had my first ruby throated visitor yesterday (St. Louis). I have two feeders out, but they are both sharing poles with other feeders. One is on a pole with a thistle seed feeder and the other is on a pole with a peanut feeder.

Will the various birds play nicely like this??… or should I move the hummingbird feeders to their own private spots?

Other considerations are… a limited number of spots that are seen from the house… and squirrel issues.

I’ve been out of the country for 10 years so don’t remember… are squirrels a problem for hummingbird feeders?

Thanks!!

We have a variety of feeders in the yard and there doesn’t seem to be a problem. Hummingbirds are little warriors and defend their territories and feeders with gusto, so having the feeders separated may reduce stress.

You can just watch your feeders to determine the dynamics. This is my first spring in this house, so have been paying more attention to the feeders. The added benefit is that we saw an oriole yesterday (I NOW have an oriole feeder!) and a grosbeak today. Both are new birds for my backyard.

Good luck.
