Question on something in chapter 5 of To Kill A Mockingbird?

On page 44 (in the hardcover book with a tree trunk and a bird flying), Miss Maudie says something about “footwashers”. What does that have to do with the Radley family?

The term “Foot-washing Baptists” means that they only live for God and nothing else. They hardly do anything besides praise God, pray, and read the Bible. They take the Bible very literally. They cursed Miss Maudie and her flowers saying she was going straight to hell with them because she wasn’t inside praying and reading the Bible.
