Which material are most bird baths made out of and how easy to repair if breaks?
have a statue that sits on top of a bird bath that is removable for a fountain pump inside..and has fallen off a few times..but seems extremely strong , hard material ,,not sure what material it is but looks kind of “ivory looking” with really smooth texture,,yet it is very hard like a stone..however this statue crack a little last time it fell..and was wondering if it would be a good idea to fill in the cracks with something? if so, what? and how durable are most of these statues on bird baths? can they be repaired if happens to break off the head?
please explain , describe what you can.
thanks for your answers!
Bird baths are made from several products; concrete (doesn’t hold up in cold climates), ceramic, plastic, resin, metal, porcelain, marble………
Smooth texture and no rough surface where it has cracked may indicate the statue is ceramic.
A lawn and garden center may know how to repair this – not a lawn and garden department. You want to show this to professionals.
Another option may be a ceramics store where they teach and sell.
Once the material used to produce the product is identified, you can then decide which is the best product to use for repair.
Labels on adhesive products have a good deal of information – you can also check these products on the Internet…..once you know what you are working with.
Good luck and best wishes for a successful repair.
