my boyfriend rescued a baby bird?

he is keeping it in a box that is full of cotton. Is this ok?
What can he do to make sure the bird survives?
He feeds it every other hour.
The baby bird has few feathers. My boyfriend doesn’t know what kind of a bird it is. It has a yellow beak. My boyfriend fed it moths.

Well, first off need to keep it as warm as possible by placing it in a bowl(cool whip)lined with tissue or paper towel. Cotton ok but can catch nails in it and it becomes messy if wet and hard to change. Then need to put baby in bowl and put bowl with baby in a box as these little guys move around and can fall very easy. Put a heating pad under the box as they need to be kept very warm. Then go to pet store and buy some hand feeding formula and meal worms. If cannot then can use dog or cat food that has been soaked in water and mushed into a paste(applesauce texture).. Or can also buy baby food chicken or beef. Then with a syringe or a end of popsicle stick feed the baby when it gapes. It should start to gape when warm enough. If not gaping could be pigeon or dove and they need to be crop fed. Need to feed every half hour from day to night. Do not feed at night as birds do not eat in pm. Best chance of survival is to put back into the nest if he can find it. Parent birds will still care for it. Old wives tale about our smell making them not care for young. If not then call local vet or the DEC who can refer you to a local wildlife rehabber in your area that can take the baby and care for it and release into wild when ready. good luck and good of him to help the critter.
