ERGENT! Nearby rescue centers for my bird?
Can anyone help me find a rescue center or a shelter that would take in an injured baby red robin???
It needs to be near haledon, nj
It would be absolutely wonderful if they can pick it up!!
PLEASE?
Please be certain that the bird is injured. Just because a bird isn’t flying, does not mean it is injured. Baby birds leave the nest (fledge) several days before they can fly. The hop around on the ground and climb low branches until their wings are strong enough for flight. The parents feed the babies during the fledgling stage.
If the bird was a fledgling, please return it immediately to where you found it. The parents will be looking for it.
If it is actually injured, you should be able to find a licensed wildlife rehabilitator here: http://www.tc.umn.edu/~devo0028/contact.htm
by the way, if it is a fledgling, you can return him and not worry. It is absolutely not true that birds reject their babies if they detect human scent on them. A bird’s sense of smell is not that acute. Every year, wildlife biologists remove baby peregrine falcons from their nests to band them, weigh them and draw blood for testing. They handle the birds with their bare hands. The mothers do not reject them after the biologists return the babies to the nests.
