Hurt bird what more to do?
Please help! A baby bird (dove) got attacked by a cat luckily I was there to help it, I am keeping it in the house in a card board box with holes I am going to take it to the wild life rescue tomorrow. From the looks of it the cat broke or cut one of his legs(he’s having trouble moving it). Is there anything else I can do for this dove?, I am a huge animal lover and this breaks my heart please tell me what else I can do for him until the wild life opens tomorrow. I live in Florida and would you know if wild life rescue opens 24 hours. I’m not sure. Thank you and Take care.
Here’s one link that may or may not help: http://www.tracyaviary.org/uploads/I%20Found%20A%20Baby%20Bird.pdf
Warmth & Bedding
If the baby is not completely feathered, it needs to be kept warm. You may use a heating pad on low heat, however cover the pad with a towel.
Some approximate temperature ranges are:
* unfeathered chicks: 90 degrees
* chicks with some pin feathers: 85 degrees
* fully feathered chicks: 75 degrees.
Place the baby bird into a small container such as a margarine tub lined with crumpled towels. It cannot get any traction on a smooth surface, and the legs sliding out from under it will cause spraddle leg. Then put the container with the baby in a box and set it on the heating pad. If the baby bird has no feathers you will then need to cover the box with another towel to help hold the heat in.
How old is the baby? I can find you more information, but what does the baby look like? What are it’s feathers like?
