Baby Blue Jay… I have a couple of questions?
Hi, I came in possesion of an egg… I tried to put it in the nest, but there was nothing in it! and yolk contents evry were! I have an incubator for my chickens, so I put the egg in… In 18 days, I founda baby! I have been feeding it soaked Wiskas cat food! It is spose to be good for them… If you have any more info or recipes for the little guy please help! He will be seven days tomorrow! His eyes stell arn’t opening and has no quils… is this normal? I know that most baby birds ly on the bellys, but mine lies on his back… he likes it this way best… does this meen somthing is wrong? Don’t tell me to bring him to a wild life rehab center! I do not have any in this area! I have had other excperiance with baby birds, just not of this species and am looking for some info!
Thanks Jared
I would reaserch their natural habitats, and how a mother would take care of it and try to act as close to that as possible.
Also, there are life cycles of baby birds on the internet, where you can look at what your baby is supposed to look like at certain ages.
For some professional info, call an animal rehab centre, you dont need to bring the brid there, just ask questions, they will be happy that you want to care for it yourself, as they uisually dont have the space or money to do so themselves.
I think that something is not right about him lying on his back, but I am most likely wrong…still, do thorough reaserch. The eyes not open and no quils sounds normal.
I know that blue jays are omnivores, so when he grows up (which i hope he does), you will need to give him some yolk or other means of protien (in the wild, he would be eating other bird’s eggs).
Good luck, and I can not stress how inmportant it is for you to reaserch baby blue jays!
