Feeding a 7 week old rainbow lorikeet from the nest. How much should it be eating & what diet is best?
I have been given a 7 week old rainbow lorikeet, that is not taking to kindly to being spoon fed. Can any one tell me how much, how often & what they should be fed. I have tried wet lorikeet mix, baby food, bread honey & water, & some baby fruit. Food & water is being left to tempt it, but it never seems to have a full crop. It only seems to take a tiny little bit of food off your fingers at any one time. Can any one give me some advise regarding these birds. The amount it eats would not be enough to fill a hole in a tooth. Please help as i do not want to lose this bird
If you do decide to try and hand feed with a syring, please call a breeder and ask them how to do it or ask if you could pay a small fee for them to come show you. If you happen to feed on the wrong side the food will go into the lungs and it will kill your bird.
Kaytee as said above is great, you should try that. Also, allow the crop to empty completly before giving more food. If not the food that remains in the crop will eventually sour, turn hard, and your bird will probably die from this.
Good luck
